BOOKS ON THE LEGHORN'S BASKETBALL - 2nd PART: ALMANAC OF THE LEGHORN'S BASKETBALL IN THE 1987
Authors: Lorenzo Gremigni, Claudio Limardi, Luciano De Majo e Francesco Parducci. Publication Year: 1987.It's almost like a book "Once upon a time the derby...". The only two differences that come out to a first reading is that this almanac was written ten years earlier than previously mentioned and that "Almanac of the Leghorn's Basketball in 1987" using samples of the second post-war (1946/47) , while "Once upon a time the derby ..." since the early '30's also describing the Fascist era of the sport in our city. Written by prominent journalists such as Lorenzo Gremigni, Claudio Limardi, Luciano De Majo and Francesco Parducci is one of the few almanacs, if not the only one who speaks of basketball in Leghorn to the knowledge of all the glorious history of the movement. An almanac that the libraries of Leghorn's fans of this sport, can not miss!

BUT LOOK WHO HAS PLAYED IN LEGHORN
(Gianmarco Pozzecco with the jersey of Baker Leghorn in 1993-94)Gianmarco Pozzecco was born in Gorizia, September 15, 1972. His debut in basketball that has made it in 1991 with the formation of Rex Udine then militancy in the championship serie A2 (now LegaDue). Meanwhile, the formation of Udine had a twinning arrangement with the team formed by the merger of Libertas and Pallacanestro Leghorn because the family Querci (which is not well remembered in Leghorn for the "bloody" merger) had interests in the company of Udine in that Leghorn. For this reason Gianmarco Pozzecco wears the maroon jersey of Baker Leghorn in 1993-94 playing 40 games in the premier league (Serie A1 today Lega A ). At the end of the season involved in the play-out for salvation, but did not win and relegated Leghorn in Division 2. The following year, with Leghorn that fails, Pozzecco (good for him!) leaves the tirrenic coast and moved in Brianza at Varese. With Metis Varese played from 1994 to 2002, competing in 225 games, winning the Championship in 1999 and soon after the Italian Super Cup. Also in 1999, participates with Varese, the McDonald's Championship (a sort of World Cup for clubs). At the end of his adventure from Varese, in the summer of 2002, go to Fortitudo Bologna, where he played 101 matches until 2005. In 2005, leaves the "eagle" because it was put out by the coach pink, and ends the season in Spain in Zaragoza. At the end of the Spanish league leaves the heat of the Iberian Peninsula and moved to the cold of Moscow where he plays in the formation of Khimky. Signing a contract is renewed annually but then the next year because the formation of Russia's qualification for European competition in 2007/2008 ULEB Cup back to Italy and marry all'Orlandina where he ended his basketball career as a major player in three minutes left in the game play-off between Avellino and Capo d'Orlando. THE BASKETBALL IN LEGHORN: A STORY FROM FAR
In the world the basketball was born back in 1891 when a gym teacher of Canadian origin, a "certain" that James Naismith was teaching at the school Sprignfield YMCA in Massachusetts, asked to find a sport which takes in training baseball players and football in winter. It occurred to him to take a basket of wood and a leather ball, inspired by an old sport in Canada called "Duck on a Rock" and invented basketball.
Leghorn was once part of it with the sport when he landed for the first time in Italy. Here the first line to participate in the first Serie A was that of Guf Livorno (the team of young fascists) who in the early '30s helped create the first Italian side. Leghorn's born was also that Professor Bruno Macchia who organized the very first championship final in Versilia - was the early '40s - and Leghorn were also those referees that legendary over the years allow to imprint true in basketball national movement. People like Folli, Sussi, Fabbri, Bianchi, who even represent Italy in the Olympics. Names rekindle the imagination of those who have white hair.
SERIE A: Even after the war remains Livorno in Serie A for a few years. The merger between Pro Leghorn and Red Star from life US Leghorn - same name of the soccer team - headed by Gaetano D'Alesio.
COUNT MALAGUZZI: It's called Cama (a brand of chocolate) the first team that bears the name of a sponsor. It was the mid-'50s, the property was the Count Orazio Malaguzzi, which is madness to buy the legendary addiruttura Stelio Posar, Trieste-born great achievements of race. In 1955 the promotion, complete with title of "Champion of Italy of the Serie B". Within 4-5 years after a demotion and another back among the "elect" (the old series A).
LIBERTAS: The amaranth (original colors of Libertas) President Dino Lugetti arrive in top division in 1959 to form the merger with Cama. From the rib of this merger will be born Portuale Leghorn from Alfred Damiani, forerunner of Pallacanestro Leghorn. The "libertassini" will be the first team of the city for years, making back and forth between the Series A and Series B for a long time.
THE PIELLE: In 1980, after an absence of nine years, Leghorn back to in Serie A thanks to Pallacanestro Leghorn, which exceeds the SIMOD Padova in the playoffs of the A2. But in the meantime has seen a great rivalry with his cousins town of Libertas. And lots more from around the league became the derby. In the seventies the challenges " THE STRACITTADINE" (the derby) are played in Serie B, but the maximum reach in the 80s when " THE STRACITTADINE" move to Serie A. From 1981 to 1989, Livorno have two teams in the premier league. For three years both in series A1.
THE FINALS: In 1989, the Libertas, sponsored Enichem, comes a step by businesses. Playing the best basketball of the league, winning the championship final, and after five games really under pressure with Philips Milan, loses one point adamant Game 5 and then seeing the first validation set aside a basket on the edge of the siren.
THE ERA QUERCI: Is the beginning of the end: in 1991, the Libertas Leghorn and Pallacanestro unite under the direction of the infamous Professor Francesco Alessandro Querci. After a surety creative 1994 is decreed the cancellation of Italian society from professional basketball.
THE RETURN: Leghorn able to return to Serie A in 1997 thanks to the family D'Alesio property of Don Bosco Basket Leghorn , then there remains for some years with the management of the Mabo. The last few years, until now, were all under the banner of creativity, on the edge of survival.

BUT LOOK WHO HAS PLAYED IN LEGHORN
(Dante Calabria with the jersey of Bini Viaggi Leghorn)John Dante Calabria Calabria was born Pottstown (USA), November 8, 1973. Dante Calabria has attended for all 4 years the canonical prestigious university of North Carolina University, had the honor of becoming captain of the Tar Heels in his last season. At the Court of Dean Smith won a NCAA title in 1993 in New Orleans and in the 1994-95 season after being the best shot from three points of the entire NCAA with 49.6%, losing in the semifinals against Arkansas University.
After college he signed with Bini Viaggi Leghorn (European debut), in A-2 (second italin championship), where it makes a good season finishing with almost 16 points per game. Now back in America, first with the Chicago Bulls (where he plays only the McDonald's Open), then in the Continental Basketball Association (the mythical CBA) with the mesh of Fort Wayne. In 1998-1999 he decided to return to play in Europe and goes to play in the French top flight in Dijon where he scored 17.1 points per well (returning to the times of onset European Leghorn). He spent another half year in France, but change the team, it goes to play for Pau Orthez, where he also dispute the Euroleague. In 2000-01 he returned to Italy, signing for Trieste, where he remained for one season, coached by Bogdan Tanjević. Team changes again next year, this time he moved to Spangna, signing for Valencia, Acb, but in January you should stop for an ankle injury. Back in November to play next year, again in Italy, Benetton Treviso, where he remained until March, when he has to return to the U.S. for stay near to family, however Benetton Italy wins the Italian Cup, after which the Benetton also win the Championship. In the 2003-04 season, signing for the Oregon Cantù, which became one of the strengths. With the mesh Cantù scoring 14.1 points per game, the Italian Super Cup in his final against Benetton Treviso. The next season arrives all'Armani Jeans Milan. Here it remains for three seasons. In these three championships with the jersey Olimpia scored good numbers, scoring 13 points average in the first season (where the final league) and 13.8 in the second. Last season his contribution is limited to the physical problems that porseguitano and closes with 8.4 points average (the worst result of his career in Italy). In July 2007 he was made official his move to Fortitudo Bologna, with a contract option for next year and for the benefit of society. After one season with the eagle in Bologna in October 2008 switch to Vanoli Soresina in league Legadue (the second Italian league). On 5 April 2009, a few days before the start of the playoffs, is out of the company rose According Triboldi.
Dante Calabria has played the European Championships men's basketball in 2005 with the Italian national team, to be naturalized.

Leghorn participated 3 times in the Korac Cup
