USA TODAY ON KEVIN RESTANI

We posted an article of the journal "USA TODAY" where is commemorated the death of Kevin Restani (a player of Libertas Leghorn from 1982 to 1986).

"Bucks say former player Restani dies at 58

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Former Bucks power forward Kevin Restani died in San Francisco after returning from Milwaukee where he had attended Game 3 between the Bucks and Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night. He was 58.
The Bucks didn't say how Restani died on Sunday night. While in Milwaukee, he had participated in the North American Association of Club Athletic Directors basketball tournament.
Restani was playing for a team representing the Olympic Club of San Francisco.
The 6-foot-9 Restani was nicknamed "Big Bird" by then Bucks play-by-play man Eddie Doucette and played in Milwaukee from 1974-79. He averaged six points and 4.6 rebounds per game with the Bucks and played eight total seasons in the NBA, making stops in Kansas City, San Antonio and Cleveland." The Italian over 45 team has won gold medals at the European maxibasket Zagreb, beating the Russian team for 66-64. After falling behind for the first three quarters, blues, party contracts and imprecise, managed to reassemble the last quarter in which Frascolla and Middleton struck repeatedly from the outside. That the Leghorn's basketball is in crisis is obvious to all. The last episode we had this summer when the only top team that had remained in Leghorn, the Women Basketball Leghorn, is demoted from series A1 to series A2 has decided not to participate in that league to shared by a number even lower, the "Serie B Eccellenza" female. Fortunately, however, there is good news for the whole movement "Labronico" basketball. A female basketball player in the formation of Leghorn, Nene Dienes (the black player in this picture), won the title of European champion with the Italian under 18 by defeating Spain in the final with a score of 66-61. An episode that makes any proud fan of the sport in our city.

THE PALALIVORNO

The PalaLivorno is a multipurpose facility built after more than 10 years, the initiative of City of Leghorn. Is situated in the new commercial port, in Veterans Sports street.
The work of this amazing plant have started back in 1988 when then there were two teams of Leghorn in "Serie A" (Libertas and Pallacanestro Leghorn) and ended only (so to speak) in the spring of 2004. Inaugurating the facility was the game between Mabo Leghorn and Skipper Bologna in March 14, 2004.
The architectural element that characterizes the sports hall is the wooden roof structure that appears to be the largest in Europe, carried out with a domed structure in three-dimensional laminated wood: 109 feet in diameter, maximum height of 33 m and a surface cover 12,200 square meters.
The PalaLivorno has a capacity of 8,033 seats for basketball games and can be raised to more than 9,000 spectators if the chairs are arranged in the "parterre". Arena there are eight dressing rooms for athletes and referees, the hall "Pietro Mascagni" of 320 square meters, the press room "Amedeo Modigliani" of 170 square meters, the hall "Giovanni Fattori" of 60 square meters, three rooms used office, three warehouses and internal technical and technological premises, a warehouse outside of 400 square meters, two dining options, two local police and fire service, medical center for athletes and first aid, large exhibition halls and staging. The plant was established last home games of the Leghorn's team that played in League A, Basket Leghorn.
Since it was opened by The Manage Forumnet, company management has other important facilities such in Italy: the Mediolaum Forum in Milan and the PalaLottomatica in Rome.
The PalaLivorno is easily accessible since it is located just outside the "Porta a Terra" Leghorn's highway, for those coming by car, but also by train is easy to reach since a few hundred meters away is the station in Leghorn. A fabulous plant worthy of the glorious history of basketball Leghorn, Italy that all envy us but unfortunately we are still far from full as you can see in this picture.

BUT LOOK WHO HAS PLAYED IN LEGHORN

Israel Machado de Andrade (all just Israel) was born January 17, 1960. He played most of his career in Italy in the middle 80s. He played in the formation of the youth Carnavalesco Fantoche. He debuted in the Brazilian league's first team of the Carnavalesco Fantoche; has also played for Corinthians Paulista, Mount Lebanon (where he won four championships: 1982, 1984, 1985 and 1986) and Guarulhos. As usual in Italy was led by a training Leghorn (Leghorn has been a great discoverer of talent, including foreign). He was played 5 games in season 1985/86 with Libertas Leghorn (sponsor Cortan and coached by Alberto Bucci) which end of the season will win promotion from Serie A2 to A1 series as first place and will participate as of right to the greatest playoff series of Italian basketball. In 1986 he was hired by the formation dell'Alno Fabriano where he played continuously from 1986 to 1991 played in all 151 games. Changes in 1991 and is wearing the jacket's Basket Rimini where he remained until 1994 with 120 games played. In 1994, try the big jump in training Virtus Rome. Unfortunately here is only for a season where he played the yellow-red 31st meetings. In 1996 the return in Brazil with the first Liga Angrense, then with the Jacarei, the Colégio Bandeirantes, the Mackenzie / Barueri and finally the formation of Hebraica where he concluded his playing career and join the technical staff of the company. Even in the Brazilian national team (as seen from the photo) made "his" game from 1982 to 1995. During that time he won two gold medals at the Americans Championships (1984 Brazil and Uruguay 1988), 3 bronze medals in the championships more Americans (Mexico 1989, USA 1992 and Argentina 1995), a silver medal at the games Pan American (Caracas 1983) and a gold medal again at the Pan American Games (Indianapolis 1987). He also played the World Cup in 1982 (8th place), 1986 (4th place), 1990 (5th); 1984 Olympics Games (9th place), 1988 (5th place) and 1992 (5th place), the FIBA Americas in 1989 (3rd place).

THE 1989 ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS: GAME 3

ENICHEM LEGHORN v PHILIPS MILAN 69-73

ENICHEM LEGHORN: FANTOZZI 13, FORTI 14, ALEXIS 20, CARERA 8, TONUT 10, WOOD 4, DE RAFFAELE, PIETRINI, PELLETTI, ROSSI. COACH: BUCCI
PHILIPS MILAN: D'ANTONI 6, PREMIER 9, MENEGHIN 3, MCADOO 13, KING 16, PITTIS 5, PESSINA 8, MONTECCHI 11, ALDI 2, BALDI. COACH: CASALINI.
LEGHORN - A game that Enichem discarded. The team of Alberto Bucci, after a disastrous start was held upright only by free throws. Seems to bounce back and half of the second game of village seems to have the game in hand with 9 points. But apparently made Tonut, Forti and Fantozzi lost the way of the basket and, simultaneously, was found by the Milan. It continued with both teams back to back or with a slight margin of advantage for "Labronici" but reached the last game with both teams in perfect equality (69 to 69). The match became unequal to the number of faults. Alexis and Carera had already left the field prematurely reached limit for fouls and other players "Gialloblu" who remained in the field had almost all four fouls. Nothing short of tragic situation because the Milan had in hand a deadly weapon, the bench longer. The basket is signed by McAdoo's victory at 57 seconds from the end of the "Lombard" leading the team on 69 to 71. The game could still be rectified Enichem but could not replicate. Tonut bezel in the wrong '"1 +1" for the third foul by Pittis and then, after a subsequent error to throw the same Pittis, the Leghorn have not controlled the ball and are no longer able to capture despite the desperate attempts of pressure of Milan. Enichem, which in prior periods was wrong for other times' "1 +1! Was punished not only by faults, just from those free throws at the beginning of the match allowed the team to stay afloat Bucci . The defeat of the "Gialloblu" has also affected the 0 to 10 to pull Alessandro Fantozzi.

THE GREAT RIVALRY OF THE LEGHORN'S BASKETBALL: THAT DISTANT MAY 1978...

In the great basketball rivalries of Leghorn is certainly remember an incident 32 years ago which in these days of the anniversary. It was just May, the league was running out, and the Pallacanestro and Libertas Leghorn militated both in Serie B, and every game could be important. Pallacanestro Leghorn played and won at home against Olimpia Florence training putting a foot and a half in series A2. Libertas Leghorn instead went on stage in Chieti against the formation of Rodrigo. PL that was enough to win libertassini cousins. But that was a nice ... At the end of the first time is the Pallacanestro that Libertas Leghorn won. The Libertas, especially, scrambled Chieti with scrap +24 (43-19) at the end of the first portion of the game. But the range is unthinkable for Pielle. Libertas in the dressing room of an incoming call arrives that changes the situation. Are told, a big price, the outcome of cousins and so is the coach and ordered the players to turn the tide of the game. Are the replaced almost all players holders replaced by young players who were on the bench (though someone did not agree), and was returning from the locker rooms, the Libertas undergoing changes so the game of 72 points and handing victory to the hosts home with the final result of 97-77, forcing the playoff in Rome for Pallacanestro Leghorn own against Chieti. Playoff which also will be just as fatal training Rodrigo win with the final score of 85-80.

THE BIG LEGHORN'S BASKETBALL STORY: THAT DISTANT MAY 1978...

These days we talk a lot of sports rivalries, especially in soccer. Even basketball in Leghorn, in the most beautiful moment in its history (late 70s to late 80s) had less. Remember certainly historical incident 32 years ago, exactly in this period. In fact it was May, the league was running out, the Libertas Leghorn and Pallacanestro Leghorn militated both in Serie B, and every game could be important. And that is precisely why we start our story. The Pallacanestro Leghorn (for all Pielle) played and won at home against Olimpia Florence training putting a foot and a half in series A2. Libertas Leghorn instead went on stage in Chieti against the formation of Rodrigo. The "Pielle" Just the cousins "libertassini" win. But that was a nice... At the end of the first time the Pallacanestro and the Libertas Leghorn won. The Libertas especially win a big . difference +24 (43-19) at home in Chieti. But the range is impesabile for Pielle. Libertas in the dressing room of an incoming call arrives that changes the situation. Are told, a big shot, the result of PL and was ordained as the coach and players to turn the tide of the game. Are thus replaced almost all players holders replaced by young talent that was on the bench (though someone did not agree), and was returning from the locker rooms, changing the way the game Libertas undergoing many as 72 points (the first time he had suffered only 19) and handing victory to the hosts (91-77 final result) thus forcing a play-off in Rome, just against Chieti, Pallacanestro Leghorn. Playoff result that among other fatal since the Abruzzesi won with a score of 85-80. But it was a great rivalry, healthy and without violence, which has contributed over the years to follow to grow a passion for the sport throughout the city. A rivalry that is missing much...

THE ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS: GAME 2

PHILIPS MILAN v ENICHEM LEGHORN 100-81

PHILIPS MILAN: D'ANTONI 18, PREMIER 19, MENEGHIN 9, MCADOO 20, KING 2, ALDI 7, PITTIS 9, PESSINA 2, MONTECCHI 14, BALDI. COACH: FRANCO CASALINI

ENICHEM LEGHORN: TONUT 17, FANTOZZI 18, ALEXIS 11, CARERA 14, FORTI 13, WOOD 7, DE RAFFAELE 1, PIETRINI. N.E.: TEDESCHI E PELLETTI. COACH: ALBERTO BUCCI

MILAN - Enichem repeats some of the bad inconsistent performance in the semi-final second leg against Knorr Bologna, and allows Milan to return to full equality in race wins in the final. Philips has built its success on defense zone "1-3-1", which completely paralyzed the penetration of "Gialloblu" and simultaneously punished by the Premier of penetration is that of McAdoo. The game was already closed when we were only 3 minutes at the end of the first portion of the game because Milan were leading by 21 points. Bucci (Leghorn's coach) has reviewed something in the locker room in the mechanisms of Enichem and the team in the second half appeared more lucid and consistent. Alexis is moved while strong Premier mounts guard on Pittis. The results have been excellent, thanks to skilful counterattacks carried out by the Fantozzi are based in Leghorn scored a partial 9 to 2 that could also open the game. But after 2 minutes and 30 seconds is the fourth foul whistled Alessandro Fantozzi forcing Alberto Bucci to call him immediately on the bench. The team brings back the handbrake and Philips can live for a pension because in the meantime, the show begins D'Antoni, free from the close marking of Leghorn's captain, who puts a bomb after the other and numerous assists that help hosts to regain the +20. The last 10 minutes of race have anything to say now: Milan firmly hold the match in hand and lead you in perfect equality in the races.

THE 1989 ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS: GAME 1

ENICHEM LEGHORN v PHILIPS MILAN 92-79

ENICHEM LEGHORN: FANTOZZI 14, FORTI 19, ALEXIS 26, CARERA 8, TONUT 13, WOOD 9, DE RAFFAELE 3. N.E.: PIETRINI, PELLETTI E TEDESCHI. COACH: ALBERTO BUCCI.

PHILIPS MILAN: D'ANTONI 6, PREMIER 11, MENEGHIN 10, MCADOO 20, KING 19, PITTIS 9, PESSINA 2, MONTECCHI 3. N.E.: ALDI E BALDI. COACH: FRANCO CASALINI.
A battle of nerves, a heads up exhausting so many mistakes on both sides and then finally the final twist in the last five minutes gialloblu landed the blow of the ko here is the summary of the first clash between Enichem valid for the Scudetto and Philips. The impact of Leghorn in this final was tremendous. Labronici too strained to find the usual geometry, to develop their game to ensure the arrival of connections: in the ten opening minutes quintet Alberto Bucci gives even 12 balls lost to Milan, who became 16 in the final half-time. But the European champions have their own problems if it is true that good can not outdistance his opponents too much on tilt psychological. And in fact the maximum benefit achieved by the Milan is five lengths (about 20 to 25). Enichem then slowly dissolves, put aside the nervous tension and begins to duel on a par with the Philips. At 6 minutes before half time the draw has already happened and then the stretch is 5 points, but last fall and again in some naivete in Milan on the occasion to go and rest in perfect equality. In the second half Enichem you immediately forward it is the first stretch (54 to 48) but will not be the definitive one. Philips is lurking and the response of the European Champion not long in coming with a partial 7 to 0. It goes on for quite a bit with minimal benefits on both sides. The turning point comes with an intentional foul whistled McAdoo on David Wood that bothered by the defense of American player of Leghorn gets nervous. To this are added the play of Fantozzi, the bombs of heavy, punctuated by baskets of Tonut and Alexis, who annihilated the team Milan. The Libertas moved to the 1 to 0.

TRAJKO RAJKOVIC

Are many great champions who have worn the jersey of one of two Leghorn's basketball teams. Today we speak of the great and unforgettable Trajko Rajkovic.

Trajko Rajkovic was born in the former Yugoslavia on December 7, 1937. His professional career is very much tied to Leghorn as was the only Italian team which has worn the jersey. He played with the jersey of Fargas Leghorn (Libertas) in the 1967-68 season, also winning the top scorer of the championship with 521 points. Unfortunately, the link ends with Leghorn immediately saw that the company relegated from Serie A to Serie B and has to send away their foreign players. At Leghorn, especially in the hearts of the supporters of Libertas, has left a wonderful memory because he was very much linked with their teammates and for all because it was an example of seriousness to be followed both in training and during matches.

He also played for the jersey of their national team winning two silvers (1965 and 1969) and one bronze (1963) at the European Championships; two silvers (1963 and 1967) and a gold (1970) World Championships; a silver (1968) to the Olympics.

He dies in 1970 three days after winning the world championships played at home.

LEGHORN ALSO WAS A KEY PLAYER IN EUROPE

Even teams Leghorn were protagonists in European competitions.
Especially the Libertas and Pallacanestro Leghorn have played, a total of 3 times, their match Korac Cup (the trophy in the photo), former European competition which was founded in 1972, has seen its abolition in 2002.
Leghorn, in its small, has played its part in 1984/85 with the formation of Libertas Leghorn sponsored by Birra Peroni, in 1988/89 with the Pallacanestro Leghorn sponsored by Allibert and again in 1989/90 with the Libertas Leghorn sponsored by Enimont.
Then everything ended with the merger, but if they still existed two the two companies, who knows if we would be here to recount only those shares or other equity maybe we would be telling perhaps the most prestigious competitions.
In this blog post all games played, with all statistics possible for you to relive those great emotion.

EX HEAD COACH OF THE LEGHORN'S BASKETBALL TEAM WIN THE ITALIAN CUP

As we all know basketball is no longer Leghorn at the highest levels of national basketball team so we are forced to go elsewhere to see how they are former Leghorn in different societies of Lega A and LegaDue.
Today worthy of note is the second consecutive victory in the Italian Cup by the Monte dei Paschi di Siena and then, consequently, the second consecutive win by Luca Banchi (in the photo), former coach to our city and now assistant coach of Pianigiani.
Luca Banchi has been trained for years in the youth sector of the Don Bosco Leghorn where he won as coach of the junior training, three league titles and head-coach of the first team of Don Bosco and Basket Leghorn.
From all the staff our most sincere congratulations!

PERSONALITIES - 2nd PART: OTELLO FORMIGLI

We continue our journey in the great personalities who have made great history of basketball in Leghorn. Today we will talk about Otello Formigli style is not invented, but with a style is born.
Its elegance, its tranquility, his jokes have made the history of basketball amaranth.
This was Otello Formigli. With him the ball into wedges in Leghorn knew the reputation experiencing epic moments.
From the pioneering invention exploits the "levers basketball" until long marriage to the Libertas: there are many events that have marked a career of sacrifice, common sense and a touch of humor.
Epica his proverbial calm in dealing with the embarrassment of scoring because even under twenty points, continued to encourage his teammates, saying, "Okay. You are good. Keep it up '."
Was his famous phrase: "The important thing is PUT THE BALL IN THE BASKET", reserved for its athletes without any distinction of valor.
Knew how to teach and defuse, amuse and bring the sport in the common fact of everyday life. An asset of inestimable value for a player and a coach who is.
