ABDUL JEELANI DIES AT AGE 62

Leghorn mourns a great loss. In the night between 3 and 4 August passed away, aged 62, Abdul Qadir Jeelani, for the fans of  Libertas simply Abdul.
Jeelani, born in Milwaukee by the name of Gary Cole (he changed his name after converting to Islam), has become an idol for the fans of Libertas Leghorn  dragging the company to the first participation in the Korac Cup.

He will go down in history for its refusal (but then convinced) to play a game of Korac Cup in a gym with tiles in that of Liverpool. Abdul, as seen in the photo above, was then convinced by both Giancarlo Primo who by his companions to take the field. After a series of negative events Jeelani fell out of favor and he sank into oblivion. Only in recent years with the help of Simone Santi (President of the Lazio Basketball, the team in which he played Abdul in his early years in Italy) and his former team-mates he managed to get up. Abdul returned to Leghorn in 2012 for a amarcord derby and to celebrate his renewed optimism.

The game noticed many people showing flag of the former Libertas such affection. Surely to all basketball fans, particularly those from Leghorn, in an even more particular to fans of Libertas will.
