THE ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS: GAME 2

PHILIPS MILAN v ENICHEM LEGHORN 100-81

PHILIPS MILAN: D'ANTONI 18, PREMIER 19, MENEGHIN 9, MCADOO 20, KING 2, ALDI 7, PITTIS 9, PESSINA 2, MONTECCHI 14, BALDI. COACH: FRANCO CASALINI

ENICHEM LEGHORN: TONUT 17, FANTOZZI 18, ALEXIS 11, CARERA 14, FORTI 13, WOOD 7, DE RAFFAELE 1, PIETRINI. N.E.: TEDESCHI E PELLETTI. COACH: ALBERTO BUCCI

MILAN - Enichem repeats some of the bad inconsistent performance in the semi-final second leg against Knorr Bologna, and allows Milan to return to full equality in race wins in the final. Philips has built its success on defense zone "1-3-1", which completely paralyzed the penetration of "Gialloblu" and simultaneously punished by the Premier of penetration is that of McAdoo. The game was already closed when we were only 3 minutes at the end of the first portion of the game because Milan were leading by 21 points. Bucci (Leghorn's coach) has reviewed something in the locker room in the mechanisms of Enichem and the team in the second half appeared more lucid and consistent. Alexis is moved while strong Premier mounts guard on Pittis. The results have been excellent, thanks to skilful counterattacks carried out by the Fantozzi are based in Leghorn scored a partial 9 to 2 that could also open the game. But after 2 minutes and 30 seconds is the fourth foul whistled Alessandro Fantozzi forcing Alberto Bucci to call him immediately on the bench. The team brings back the handbrake and Philips can live for a pension because in the meantime, the show begins D'Antoni, free from the close marking of Leghorn's captain, who puts a bomb after the other and numerous assists that help hosts to regain the +20. The last 10 minutes of race have anything to say now: Milan firmly hold the match in hand and lead you in perfect equality in the races.

THE 1989 ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS: GAME 1

ENICHEM LEGHORN v PHILIPS MILAN 92-79

ENICHEM LEGHORN: FANTOZZI 14, FORTI 19, ALEXIS 26, CARERA 8, TONUT 13, WOOD 9, DE RAFFAELE 3. N.E.: PIETRINI, PELLETTI E TEDESCHI. COACH: ALBERTO BUCCI.

PHILIPS MILAN: D'ANTONI 6, PREMIER 11, MENEGHIN 10, MCADOO 20, KING 19, PITTIS 9, PESSINA 2, MONTECCHI 3. N.E.: ALDI E BALDI. COACH: FRANCO CASALINI.
A battle of nerves, a heads up exhausting so many mistakes on both sides and then finally the final twist in the last five minutes gialloblu landed the blow of the ko here is the summary of the first clash between Enichem valid for the Scudetto and Philips. The impact of Leghorn in this final was tremendous. Labronici too strained to find the usual geometry, to develop their game to ensure the arrival of connections: in the ten opening minutes quintet Alberto Bucci gives even 12 balls lost to Milan, who became 16 in the final half-time. But the European champions have their own problems if it is true that good can not outdistance his opponents too much on tilt psychological. And in fact the maximum benefit achieved by the Milan is five lengths (about 20 to 25). Enichem then slowly dissolves, put aside the nervous tension and begins to duel on a par with the Philips. At 6 minutes before half time the draw has already happened and then the stretch is 5 points, but last fall and again in some naivete in Milan on the occasion to go and rest in perfect equality. In the second half Enichem you immediately forward it is the first stretch (54 to 48) but will not be the definitive one. Philips is lurking and the response of the European Champion not long in coming with a partial 7 to 0. It goes on for quite a bit with minimal benefits on both sides. The turning point comes with an intentional foul whistled McAdoo on David Wood that bothered by the defense of American player of Leghorn gets nervous. To this are added the play of Fantozzi, the bombs of heavy, punctuated by baskets of Tonut and Alexis, who annihilated the team Milan. The Libertas moved to the 1 to 0.

TRAJKO RAJKOVIC

Are many great champions who have worn the jersey of one of two Leghorn's basketball teams. Today we speak of the great and unforgettable Trajko Rajkovic.

Trajko Rajkovic was born in the former Yugoslavia on December 7, 1937. His professional career is very much tied to Leghorn as was the only Italian team which has worn the jersey. He played with the jersey of Fargas Leghorn (Libertas) in the 1967-68 season, also winning the top scorer of the championship with 521 points. Unfortunately, the link ends with Leghorn immediately saw that the company relegated from Serie A to Serie B and has to send away their foreign players. At Leghorn, especially in the hearts of the supporters of Libertas, has left a wonderful memory because he was very much linked with their teammates and for all because it was an example of seriousness to be followed both in training and during matches.

He also played for the jersey of their national team winning two silvers (1965 and 1969) and one bronze (1963) at the European Championships; two silvers (1963 and 1967) and a gold (1970) World Championships; a silver (1968) to the Olympics.

He dies in 1970 three days after winning the world championships played at home.

LEGHORN ALSO WAS A KEY PLAYER IN EUROPE

Even teams Leghorn were protagonists in European competitions.
Especially the Libertas and Pallacanestro Leghorn have played, a total of 3 times, their match Korac Cup (the trophy in the photo), former European competition which was founded in 1972, has seen its abolition in 2002.
Leghorn, in its small, has played its part in 1984/85 with the formation of Libertas Leghorn sponsored by Birra Peroni, in 1988/89 with the Pallacanestro Leghorn sponsored by Allibert and again in 1989/90 with the Libertas Leghorn sponsored by Enimont.
Then everything ended with the merger, but if they still existed two the two companies, who knows if we would be here to recount only those shares or other equity maybe we would be telling perhaps the most prestigious competitions.
In this blog post all games played, with all statistics possible for you to relive those great emotion.

Luca Banchi has been trained for years in the youth sector of the Don Bosco Leghorn where he won as coach of the junior training, three league titles and head-coach of the first team of Don Bosco and Basket Leghorn.

Authors: Lorenzo Gremigni, Claudio Limardi, Luciano De Majo e Francesco Parducci. Publication Year: 1987.

It's almost like a book "Once upon a time the derby...". The only two differences that come out to a first reading is that this almanac was written ten years earlier than previously mentioned and that "Almanac of the Leghorn's Basketball in 1987" using samples of the second post-war (1946/47) , while "Once upon a time the derby ..." since the early '30's also describing the Fascist era of the sport in our city. Written by prominent journalists such as Lorenzo Gremigni, Claudio Limardi, Luciano De Majo and Francesco Parducci is one of the few almanacs, if not the only one who speaks of basketball in Leghorn to the knowledge of all the glorious history of the movement. An almanac that the libraries of Leghorn's fans of this sport, can not miss!
